Color Mapping

Not every part is a good candidate for CMM inspection. Castings and thermoformed or rotational-molded parts offer a chance to save FAI costs by using scanning technology to compare the actual part back to the CAD model. AIS now provides color mapping technology for first article inspection.

We use our ROMER arms and Steinbichler equipment to create 3D graphical color map reports. These are not your usual text-based reports from measurements taken from single points. Instead the color map will show the differences on the part by comparing multiple scanned points to a CAD model. The part to CAD analysis provides different colors for different areas to show the ranges of tolerance. The color mapping shows sinks or protrusions that a CMM might have missed. You can also use the data from color mapping to modify the CAD model to conform to the actual part, or for reverse engineering. Color mapping lets you visually see and analyze where a problem might occur.
